Music:Rock and genres that rocked

In the early 90's the new genre "grunge" was popular. It rebelled against the 80's image and style based music. Later, after Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain died, bands like Peral Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, The Lemonheads and Sonic Youth became more popular in the mid 90's. Also grunge inspired bands like The Cranberries blew up in the genre indie rock.

In the mid and late 90's pop punk, rap rock and nu metal became standard. Bands like Green Day, The Offspring, Sum 41 and Blink 182 were hip and well played on the radio. These bands combined punk with radio friendly sounds. Rap Rock combined rap lyrics and style with the metal guitar sound. Faith No More paved the way for Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Korn and Slipknot and Linkin Park. Nu Metal bands that became the current rage and were quickly signed included Papa Roach, P.O.D. and Disturbed.
